Privacy Policy
Effective September 18, 2026 · covers the High Frequency Radio apps (phone and TV) and highfrequencyradio.org
The short version: there are no accounts, no ads, no analytics companies, and no tracking.
The app plays the radio. The only thing it ever sends is an anonymous, random ID when you rate a song
or when a saved song plays, so votes count once and the station knows which songs connect. That ID
says nothing about who you are, and we couldn't tie it to you if we tried.
What we collect
- An anonymous listener ID. The app invents a random identifier on your device. It is not
your name, email, phone number, advertising ID, or anything drawn from your device's identity. It is
sent only when you rate a song or when a song you saved for offline listening plays, and the server
stores just a one-way hash of it, so one listener counts once. You can reset it any time by clearing
the app's data.
- Song ratings. The heart, thumbs-up, or thumbs-down you give the song playing, tied to
that anonymous hash. Tapping your vote again withdraws it.
- TV linking: only if you link. The TV app can show a short one-time code so your saved
songs can follow you to the big screen. If you claim one, the station stores that link: a random
token, the display name you typed (any name you like, not necessarily yours), an optional
icon address, and the song titles on your shelf. Nothing else rides along, and unlinking from the
TV removes it.
- Play counts. When a saved song plays, the app tells the station so the play is counted,
anonymously, the same way.
- Ordinary server logs. Like nearly every website, our servers keep standard technical logs
(such as IP address and request time) to run the stream and keep the service healthy. They are used
for operations only.
- Your Album requests: only if you send one. The Your Album page has a form; if you choose
to submit it, the name, contact, and answers you type go to the station and nowhere else. They are
used only to talk with you about your album, never shared, and deleted on request.
What we don't collect
No accounts or sign-ins. No location. No advertising or analytics SDKs. No selling, sharing, or
renting of data to anyone, ever. Outside the Your Album form you choose to send, no names, email
addresses, or contacts. The app asks for notification permission only so Android can show playback
controls while the radio plays.
Deleting your data
Everything the station could hold about you, and how to erase it, is spelled out at
highfrequencyradio.org/delete-data.html. One email does it.
Songs you save
Downloaded songs are stored in the app's private storage on your own device. Deleting a song, or
uninstalling the app, removes them. The music is given away on purpose. Saving it is yours to enjoy,
no strings attached.
Children
The app is made for a general audience and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
